PA Endurance Sprint Rules

These rules are pretty simple!

  • 1. Each team MUST consist of 2 or 3 members. A 3 person team can continue as a 2 person team. No solo racers permitted
  • 2. Each team MUST carry a cell phone fully charged in a waterproof bag. The team cell phone is used for immediate emergency assistance only. Dial 911 if your team needs immediate emergency assistance by the authority’s. Police, EMT, etc…
  • 3. All Racers MUST wear Official Race Number provided by race management at all times.
  • 4. All Racers MUST complete the entire course as prescribed to be considered an official finisher.
  • 5. All Racers MUST stay within 50 feet of each other or face a time penalty or disqualification.
  • 6. All Racers MUST cross the finish line together.
  • 7. All Racers MUST show good sportsmanship to fellow racers, volunteers, spectators, etc …
  • 8. No outside assistance is permitted at any time. Teams may help other teams.
  • 9. Race passports must be turned in at the end of the race to be considered an official finisher.

  • What is an adventure race?
    • The word adventure has different meanings for different people. For some, adventure is synonymous with the extreme implying thrills, excitement, risks and dangers, and the unexpected and extraordinary experiences. The Carmel Triple Challenge can be considered more of an eco-adventure sport. Adventure is more focused on the journey and being mental and physically challenged in nature and creating thrills and excitement without the danger and risk. (return to FAQ)
  • I'm not an endurance athlete should I do this event?
    • People tend to think two to three hours, that's like a marathon. Not so here. There are a lot of stop and rest points in this time. Resting for a few minutes along the course is common. If you can complete a 5k or 10k or play a one hour soccer match, the Carmel Triple Challenge is well within your abilities. (return to FAQ)
  • What is orienteering?
    • Orienteering is a variation of navigating. It challenges you to read a map, make decisions, plan a route, all while moving across the landscape. You will follow the course drawn on a orienteering map to find orange and white flag markers (called controls). At each control, you will use the punch that is attached to the control to mark a corresponding box on the punch card (passport in this event). An orienteering map is a detailed map of a property. Details included are contour lines(indicating a hill), roads, trails, buildings, streams and vegetation (woods or fields). For more information go to www.indyo.org, the local orienteering club.   • I have never done orienteering, should I still do this event?
    • There are many levels of orienteering. The orienteering for the Carmel Triple Challenge will be a yellow type course which is beginner level. This course will be designed to be completed by first time orienteers of all ages. (There will be an orienteering meet a Holiday park on June 21, 2008 if you would like to try orienteering out before The Carmel Triple Challenge.   • Will the street be blocked off?
    • No, the street will not be blocked off. You must obey all traffic and pedestrian rules just as you would on a ride or run on any Sunday afternoon. The course is designed for safe pedestrian travel. (return to FAQ)
  • Is there danger involved?
    • Safety is our highest priority. As we said before, the adventure is focused on the journey through the mental and physical challenges and creating thrills and excitement without the danger and risk. There are some challenges that my raise you adrenaline but it will be managed by professional to high safety standards, that tend to make them the safest part of the race.   • What if I'm not comfortable with doing a challenge?
    • The Carmel Triple Challenge is about the experience. If you don't feel comfortable about you or your child doing it, it is perfectly fine to sit it out. (return to FAQ)
