- Schedule
- Registration opens - 7am*
- *(6 hour course teams will definitely receive all maps and instructions as soon as they check in. We will likely not distribute 12 hour maps and info until shortly before the start, or maybe right after the start...)
- Bike drops open 7:00am
- Pre race meeting - 8:30am
- Race start (both courses) - 9am
- 6 hour course cutoff - 3pm SHARP (1 CP/full minute penalty for lateness, don't be late!)
- 12 hour course cutoff - 9pm SHARP (1 CP/full minute penalty for lateness, don't be late!)
- Park Entry: when you enter the park, just let the gate people know that you are with the Planet Adventure Sprint Adventure Race, they will have you sign in and will not make you pay the entry fee... that's on us.
- Friday Night: Some of the PA crew will be camping in the full-hookup camper area, come find us Friday night if you're staying in the area. We'll have a beverage or two for you.
- Format: The course format will be “rogaine style” in that the team with the most points wins. HOWEVER, there are going to be both mandatory points on the course and course cutoffs that must be observed. So, if you miss a cutoff or mandatory point you will be ranked BEHIND all the teams that made that cutoff or obtained that mandatory point.
- Bike Drop: Both courses have a bike drop at the Hannah Creek Boat Ramp, located on Arthur Curry Road [See Map]. Note that in reality, the road is only signed as “Curry Road”. The bike drop will open at 7:00am at the latest and is about 15 minutes from the Start/Finish. (so plan your 30 minute round trip)
- Trekking: Largely off trail, the thorns, weeds, leaves and poison ivy are starting to green up, so take that into account when planning your clothing and gear.
- Biking will be entirely on pavement and gravel (bummer, we know) so make your tire selection accordingly. We would NOT suggest that you use pure road tires (1” wide), but hybrid or slick MTB tires should be fine.
- Maps:
- 6 hour teams - Your maps will be entirely pre marked with CP locations and numbers. You will NOT have to do any plotting or any work with UTM’s. You will recieve a total of 3 11”x17” maps for your entire race course
- 12 hour teams - You will have to do work with UTM plotting, standard scales. You may have to plot points from scratch, you may have to identify points that are marked on the map, but not labelled. Bottom line is that you MUST know your UTM’s, and be prepared to use those skills while “on the clock”. you will also be receiving a total of FIVE maps for your race. As with many longer races “map management” will be an important part of your strategy.
- Online resource link for UTM Plotting information & free plotting tool downloads, see Maptools
- Blaze Orange: Turkey season has unfortunately begun, so be sure to keep your blaze orange visible. Talking, whistling or singing wouldn’t be a bad idea. Making turkey gobbling noises is not recommended. Seriously though, the course was partially set last Thursday during “youth” turkey hunting seasons and we saw numerous hunters, even talked to a few and there were no issues. Just be smart and make sure your orange is visible at all times.
- Gear List is finalized.
- Technical Race Shirts have been selected and will be included for all registered racers, we're currently working on a great design for 2010.
2010 Overview
Join us in April for the 7th running of the Planet Adventure Sprint race. This year we have an all new course in store for everyone, starting and finishing in the Brookville Lake area in Eastern Indiana. As our first "Jumbo" Sprint of the year, the course will span 12 hours but will include a 6 hour short course option.
Your course designer for 2010 is Mike Garrison (make sure you check in on his blog for potential insider details) of Team Indy Rootstock AR. He is building your course in the traditional design style normally reserved for 24+ hour courses.
If you're looking for a classic style adventure race to start your season, or if your team is looking to advance to the PA 24/36 race this year, or if you just want to come race and have a blast... this race is for you!
